Development cooperation is an essential component of the Italian presence in Egypt. In line with national priorities, the Italian Cooperation aims with its initiatives at tackling poverty and social exclusion as well as improving the living conditions of the most marginalized and vulnerable segments of the population. As part of a wide partnership strategy between the two countries, the Italian system of cooperative relations with Egypt is based on the principles of equality and mutual respect. In more than twenty years, the Italian Cooperation has been acting through several of the instruments at its disposal, such as the Italian-Egyptian Debt-Swap program, grants, soft loans, multilateral programs. With a bilateral program worth about 250 million euros, including all initiatives in progress and those in pipeline, Italy counts as one of the most important donor to Egypt.
