|Description||The project is a pilot project with the goal of exploring the use of remote sensing technology to improve the spatial and temporal estimates of water quality parameters along one of the river branches in the Nile Delta. The successful results of this project and methodology may be applied to the rest of the River Nile. The project covers mainly four objectives:
– To model specific water quality parameters for the Rosetta Branch.
– To improve the existing water quality model on the basis of improved spatial and temporal information.
– To explore using hyperspectral images to relate water quality parameters to spectral signatures in order to derive estimates of one or a number of water quality parameters in water ways.
– To evaluate the effectiveness of using remote sensing technology for improving estimates of water quality parameters in drainage network system.
To achieve its objectives, the project will utilize the water quality samples collected by NWRC and the remote sensing images to demonstrate the status of different sites in the waterways
|Expected Results||R.1. Demonstrating the water quality status in different locations on the Nile in the form of comprehensive spatial and temporal information.
R.2. Illustrating the location, size and distribution of fisheries, aquatic weeds, algae and source point pollution as water quality determinants.
R.3. Exploring the prospects of using hyperspectral images as a useful technology in the estimation of water quality parameters.
R.4. Determining the timing, location and methodology of applying the remote sensing images in improving the monitoring of the water quality status in the waterways
