Description The project intended to promote psychosocial rehabilitation of patients with mental illnesses by developing artistic laboratories, sheltered workshops, self-help groups, work skills and supported work opportunities. These interventions were considered instrumental to combat stigma and discrimination, and to foster empowerment and social inclusion. The project also intended to integrate of Mental Health within the Primary Health Care system.


The specific objectives of the project were to:

–        Enhance capacities for improving self-help, self-sufficiency, autonomy and dignity for people with mental disorders

–        Create opportunities for self-fulfilment and social inclusion for people with mental disorders through art rehabilitation

–        Encourage the exploitation of individual skills to prevent or contrast mental disabilities through work and employment

–        Raising awareness in the community to combat stigma and discrimination and to promote positive mental health

Developing capacity and involvement of Primary Health Care system in activities encompassing anti-stigma, self-help training, rehabilitation, and recovery from mental health disabilities

Expected Results Laboratories of different forms of art (mosaic, photography, block printing and recycling) implemented at AWSC; a camper equipped as mobile laboratory and gallery for exhibition and awareness purposes; self-help groups of service users and their families set up; work skills and supported placements for psychiatric patients enhanced
