Description The project aimed at supporting the social inclusion of street children, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), at risk of losing parental care, by implementing focused activities -at both national and grass-root levels- in two districts of Cairo and Alexandria Governorates. The project envisaged collaboration with the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood to implement the action plan for minors at risk, and the strengthening of the role and the capacity of Child Protection Committees –both at district and central levels– to prevent, detect and refer on child abuse. The project also intended to contribute to the increase of awareness of local communities regarding the problems of minors at risk, and improve families’ economic situation by providing micro-credit loans and non-financial services to mothers of children at risk in informal areas in North Cairo.
Expected Results 1.      Families and OVC and the economic mobility of children at-risk are enhanced through an increased access to sustainable livelihoods and assets growth;

2.      Capacities of District Child Protection Committees Technical Secretariats are strengthened to better monitor, prevent, detect, and reintegrate children at-risk at community level;

3.      Prevention and reintegration interventions are implemented for street children and OVC in communities based on the National Action Plan on the “Prevention and Rehabilitation of Street Children in Egypt”;

4.      Supportive environment for street children and OVC are enhanced
